It was a strong opening weekend for Fort McMurray Fury youth soccer teams competing in Edmonton.

The U12 Girls Fury team took part in their first three games in the Edmonton Interdistrict Youth Soccer Association Tier II league.

In the U12 Girls Fury’s weekend play, they beat the Edmonton Drillers 2-0 and Edmonton Scottish 3-0 with all five goals coming from Ashley Delint and Lindsey Janes. The Fury then tied Edmonton Internazionale 2-2 in their final game of the weekend.

“I think that they definitely executed the game plan well and we wanted to get at least one win out of the weekend,” said U12 girl’s Fury head coach Alexandria Mah.

“They’ve definitely progressed from the indoor to the outdoor season and I think some of that can be attributed to their hard work in training sessions.”

The U14 Boys Fury followed up their successful indoor season with a strong outing on their opening weekend. The boys defeated Southwest United 5-0, Edmonton Strikers 5-2 and St. Albert Impact 11-2.

A team of U12 boys were also in action this past weekend, competing in the Duggan Community Soccer Tournament. The fury took first place with a 3-1 record, 10 points in the standings and a goal differential of +9.

The U10 boys and U14 girls fury teams will open their seasons this coming weekend.
